Cyprus Ultra Donkey Run

Posted on 16 March 2011

Well, we are now going full-force to hosting a series of epic ultra running races in the spectacular county of Cyprus.   Yes, it’s a country and not an island and it’s not Greece!   After a recent trip last month, we experienced one of the most spectacular locations for running in a completely remote mountain range.

During our visit we met some great local residents including the founder of the Limassol Running Club.   We immediately felt the same passion of running and decided that with this location we could partner to host some unique ultra-running races in an environment not found in many places in the world.    Rocky mountains with old donkey trails,  deep blue Mediterranean Sea coast and plenty of sun make the venue perfect for a tough ultra-running event.

All the details can be found on the website just launched,   There will be 3 races on January 28, 2012 – 42K, 50K, 50 Miles.   We are in the process of planning the course (rocky trails, climbing) and more details and pictures will be updated on the website.

The Donkey Run -  July 28, 2012, This race will be no question one of the most difficult continuous running events in the world.  The course will be held in very hot temperatures with intense sun – expect well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and 90 percent humidity!    Distance – of course over 100 miles!  We are targeting 135 miles!   The time limit will be in the 60 hour range or possibly longer.   Still to be determined, the goal will to make this race a premier ultra-running event in the world.

In 25 years of racing, I have seen just about everything imaginable with races.  Our goal working with the Limassol Running Club will to create a memorable event.  There will be a limited number of runners for each event and will include local culture, a post-race party with local cuisine – (no awful pasta party, or same old post race food) a festive atmosphere, and of course some live donkey’s, unique finishers awards and a lifetime of memories.

Stay tuned to the website and sign on if you have an interest in participating in one of these unique events.   We are just gathering contact names currently – sign up for updates.
