Race Review: Bigfoot 5K & 10K Showshoe Race

Posted on 11 January 2012

Running Fit Presents… Bigfoot Snowshoe Race! A beautiful 5K/10K run through the northern Michigan woods near Traverse City. Soon to be your favorite race of the year!

The pre race mood at Bigfoot is just fun and is Perfect for first timers and ‘die hard’ pros! The usual crowd consists of about 300 participants entered and 100 of them rent snowshoes, probably their first time on them.

There are a handful of very serious shoers at Bigfoot because it’s the Midwest qualifier for the National Championship Snowshoe race coming up in March. A 5 person U.S. Team goes on from that event to compete at the World Snowshoe Championships. Serious stuff!

The 5 and 10K courses are super hilly off trail runs with plenty of logs to jump and branches to duck! Start and finish are in the same place, and the course will be clearly marked.

To prepare for the race, Run on hills and through the snow if you can! There will be aid on the course -and post race refreshments will be provided.

There is no race expo but packets can be picked up at Running Fit Downtown – 300 E. Front Street (corner of Park and Front) on Friday Jan 28th.

If you are traveling for this event, there are plenty of great places to stay and things to do in Traverse City.  Bring the whole family ~ Get some snow shoes and let the kids run too!
